Happy 4th Birthday Susie!

It's hard to believe Susie turned four years old this month! Her birthday was a whirlwind trifecta of excitement complete with a school celebration, tea party, family dinner, and three rounds of cake and ice cream to go with it all. This, of course, means I was a baking, decorating, entertaining machine, but Susie's enjoyment from start to finish made it all worth the effort. It also made me appreciate my own mom who put so many wonderful birthday parties together for me over the years! Thanks, mom!! Here's the photo evidence of the big two-day event.

Doug stayed up the night before Susie's birthday putting together this birthday gift. It was a late night labor of love complete with a hand-layed brick foundation and everything!

A collection of old hats from when I was a little girl added to the fun. Ooo La La!

Susie ready to dig in to the tea pot cake I made. Although it looked pretty cute, I have to admit it tasted terrible!!

Susie was allowed to invite four children from her preschool class to come to her tea party. Even though I kept reminding her that it was going to be a very girly party, she insisted on inviting her all-boy buddy Isaac. He was a very good sport despite all the frills!

The famous birthday door sign- it's not a birthday without it!

Susie was lucky to share her birthday dinner with friends and family- Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Dave, Uncle Ryan, and Auntie Katie Phillips, Godmama, Godfather, and Jack McGuire, and Neighbors Krista and Harold Rollin. By this point in the party excitement I'm sad to admit I was done taking pictures, so I don't have much documentation for you of the evening, but I do have these fabulous pictures of Grandpa testing out the playhouse!

Claire enjoying Susie's birthday dinner request: double decker tacos and corn on the cob! Sounds like a four-year-old request, don't you think?!

Birthday aftermath- Barbie City!!

Poor Daddy-O

These pictures crack me up. Poor Doug is doing his best to read to the girls before bedtime, but apparently he didn't choose a very interesting book!

Seems like it could be a good story....
...yeah, not so much!

Beach Blog, Part One

Last August the Phillips fam was lucky to enjoy a weekend in Santa Cruz with some of my closest college girlfriends and their husbands and kiddos. With eight adults and six kids all under the age of four we definitely had a full house, but it was tons of fun!

Below are some of the picture highlights from the weekend including beach lovers:
(Obviously...) Doug, Ann and kids Susie (almost 4) and Claire (1 1/2 yrs)
Zoe and James Gnesda and kids Carolyn (3 1/2 yrs) and Evelyn (16 mths)
Dani and David Chanley and son Connor (15 mths)
Annley and Brett Dempsey and son Hunter (5 mths)

The pictures are in two parts: The Gnesda Family was able to come a little early on Friday afternoon, so the first beach blog is pictures from our Friday trip to the Boardwalk. The second half of the beach blog is the remainder of the weekend with all four families. Enjoy!

Carolyn obviously enjoying her cotton candy!

Saving for a later snack?

Not too sure Claire loved the rides!

I was impressed that both Susie and Carolyn (and their daddies) went on the log ride

Zoe and I waited in line to go on the ride with the girls a second time, but as you can see Susie and I are not in the picture... once was enough for Susie Q!

Santa Cruz Beach Weekend Continued...

The dads spent much of their weekend on the balcony, always with a beer in hand

Not yet ready for a beer, Connor chose to hang out on the balcony with the baby stroller (the only toy with wheels, I think!). What a great daddy he will be some day!
Dani getting a baby fix with Hunter

All the kids minus Hunter who's not quite on the move just yet

Saturday morning checking out the surf (balcony, but no beer this time!)

Geared up and heading to the beach

Poor Hunter wasn't too sure of the beach, but he was still a trooper!

James and a couple of kiddos

Brett and another couple kids!

Until next summer- thanks for loaning us the house, Nana!
